CHILDREN’S DIAGNOSTIC & TREATMENT CENTER CELEBRATES
25 YEARS OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Mosaic Donor Wall Created
Fort Lauderdale, FL., April 28, 2010 ---- Two hundred forty -seven donors who have given generously over the past twenty five years to the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (www.childrensdiagnostic.org) will be celebrated forever in a work of art. One of Broward County’s largest child healthcare providers commissioned South Florida mosaic designer Todd Michael to create a donor wall unlike any other. After a year of planning and preparing, this 200 lb glass and stone sculpture is now ready to be the new focal point at the Children’s Center. Set for delivery on April 28, 2010, Todd Michael Mosaics (www.mosaicsbytodd.com ) will present CDTC with the finished piece.
With less than six degrees of separation, Todd’s first meeting with the Children's Center took place when the organization was in need of artistic help. The center was already in love with mosaics but had no mosaic artist. They met and expressed their needs and also a desire to help. He held a 3 part series of mosaic classes with the social workers who wanted to memorialize those children who had passed on. A collaboration of ideas came about and resulted in a 9 foot mosaic memorial tree of life in memory to dozens of children who have passed on. “Art for art’s sake is great, and it’s even better when I get to make art for a reason,” said Todd Michael. Since then, he’s donated yearly to “Red Ribbons,” which is an annual fundraiser in which CDTC works closely with artists as they host the event held on World AIDS day. Donated art works are placed on silent auction in order to raise money for the families of the children CDTC helps. In the spirit of giving back, they have commissioned Todd Michael to create their first in a series of two Donor Walls. “It’s the center’s privilege to recognize the wonderful individuals and organizations who have provided support for the continuation of our work throughout the past quarter century.” said Dr. Susan Widmayer, the founder of Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center.
